Charlotte ArtLeague (CAL) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization built by a collective of local artists in 1985. CAL is Charlotte’s oldest nonprofit art gallery. Since its inception, CAL has been paving a new landscape for the art scene. It is an authentic art experience for art lovers of all ages and backgrounds. Charlotte ArtLeague’s mission is to enrich the community through teaching, empowering, and advocating for the creative arts. CAL offers a unique mix of open working studios, classes, and community outreach programs along with a public gallery.

The Role that Art Plays in Building Community

Art unites appreciators from different cultures. Regardless of race, religion, ethnicity and gender, art speaks to us all. Art brings people from around the world to visit the Louvre in Paris, France every day. Art is what gathers a global community in a desert Art is Life and Life is Art.
Organizations such as Charlotte Art League (CAL) and BOOM Charlotte are grassroots initiatives that provide platforms for local artists to be seen, heard and sought after. Not every artist is able to have work on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Not every artist must be famous to be successful. Community arts organizations such as CAL and BOOM are how local artists reach people within their communities.They are community hubs that unite people of all different backgrounds in one community.
